Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah, who has been active in the industry for last four decades, was recently asked to share what is fundamentally wrong with Bollywood which has resulted in its ongoing slump. The year 2022 has been disastrous for Bollywood as most of the promising films starring big actors failed to make their mark and only a handful of films managed to bring the audience to theatres.
When asked to comment on the same, Ratna told The Indian Express, "Where do I begin? It is mainly lack of good script and ideas. Everything else follows from that." She added how Bollywood has always tried to play it safe which is why there is a dearth of new and interesting ideas.
Ratna further said, "One of the big talents that had been missing was that intelligent people never got into production. Educated people didn’t get into production, it was a very risky proposition. That has changed a bit. There are new kinds of financiers and producers coming into the picture and hopefully they will bring their own sensibilities along with it.”
Talking about the positives, the actress shared that Bollywood is finally learning the importance of a script writer now. "After 100 years of Indian cinema, we have finally started giving importance to script writers. Der aaye durust aaye, par abhi toh samjhe, ki script ke bagair picture nahi ban sakti! At least we have reached step one for now. Let’s see where we go.”
On the work front, Ratna Pathak is waiting for the release of her first Gujrati language film titled 'Kutch Express'. It is set to release theatrically on 6th of January.
