'Lacchi', starring and produced by Jayathi Gaddam, has been directed by Eeshwar. Chandra Mohan, Raghu Babu and Dhanraj are part of the cast. As the film is set to hit the screens on Nov 24, Jayathi in this interview talks about the film, her role, and more.

Tell us about your background.

I am well known through the show 'Vennela', which is telecast on Gemini TV. Taking a break from TV, I have done 'Lacchi'.

How was it working on 'Lacchi'?

I don't know how many lady producers have been there in the past. But, speaking for myself, I have worked really hard on this movie. We toiled very hard for the sake of qualitative output. Outdoor shoots alone took 60-70 days.

I hope that audiences are going to accept me in the same way as they have done so far.

Why did you choose to do the titular role?

Director Eeshwar garu had worked under Pawan Kalyan garu in the past. I decided to produce the film as soon as I heard out the narration. I didn't want to do the movie in the beginning. But since I loved the role and felt that it would be apt for me, I went ahead.

What thoughts are crossing your mind these days?

I am waiting to see how this journey from TV to silver screen is going to turn out. I had bought the remake rights of a Malayalam film. But since I realized that the budget would be high to make it, I went ahead with 'Lacchi'. I wanted to do it at a small budget. At the same time, I didn't want to compromise on quality. So, the costs did go up.

What is your character in the movie?

My character is that of an exorcist. A comedy, 'Lacchi' is entirely set in a village. We shot in a village near Tirupathi. The crux of the story is about how my character solves the problems facing my village.

What can we expect from the movie?

Although the subject is quite serious-minded, it has been narrated in a comical way. It's also thrilling and suspenseful. The film has come out really well, especially the visuals. Suresh Yuvan's music is another highlight.

What is your learning curve so far?

Being a host on TV and acting in a film are two different ball games. It's quite a difficult job to both act and produce. I will be happy if people say that Jayathi has done a fine job.

What are your future plans?

I will do the remake of the Malayalam film whose rights I have got. I won't be essaying glamorous roles.
