'Laal Singh Chaddha', 'RB' flop; Boycott calls not the reason

'Laal Singh Chaddha' is posting extremely poor figures at the box-office. 'Raksha Bandhan' is doing even worse. Both films put together on Day 1 couldn't earn more than 18 Cr (Nett.) in India.
'LSC' opened to just 1/5th of Aamir Khan's previous film. This is as worse as it can get. 'Thugs of Hindostan' couldn't have been bettered by 'LSC' for the reason that its genre is not attractive to the masses. Even so, a mere Rs 10 Cr opening reflects the saddest state of Bollywood affairs.
Is this poor show because of the boycott campaigns run by Netizens on social media? Many would like to believe that's the case. But that's not so. 'Dangal' became a blockbuster after Aamir Khan made comments "critical" of India and the Narendra Modi government. That's because 'Dangal' was content-oriented. On the other hand, 'LSC' is a boring remake of an overrated classic with no proper emotional arc.
But shouldn't 'LSC' at least have got a respectable opening? The fault lies in how its trailer was cut. To be fair, the trailer couldn't have been any better. The film itself has got sub-par content.
Poor trailers of 'LSC' and 'Raksha Bandhan' must be seen as the reason for their box office failure. "'Thugs of Hindostan' had an interesting trailer. 'Tubelight' took in Rs 20 Cr Day 1 eve though Salman Khan has a more loyal fan base. That's because its trailer was bad," says columnist Arnab Ray, offering an example.
Like Tollywood, Bollywood too is witnessing the sad aftertaste of poorly-cut trailers.
