While Kyon Ki is trying to battle it out at the box office, there seems to be a controversy in the making already.

In most part of the movie, Salman Khan plays a schizophrenia patient admitted in a mental asylum, who occasionally gets violent. In this asylum, word 'paagal' is used repeatedly to describe many more patients like Salman Khan. Numerous psychiatrists are upset with this as they feel that the depiction of mental health workers is "regressive" and "shocking".

They also feel that the movie casts derogatory remarks and strengthens the negative stereotypes associated with mental illness that doctors and mental health workers are trying hard to break.

To discuss this issue, the Counselors Association of India [CAI] is planning to approach the National Human Rights Commission of India.
