Kamal Kamaraju, who was recently seen as the hero's sibling in 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Katamarayudu', is ready with the release of 'Kutumba Katha Chitram' in which he has played a watchman's role. In this interview, the 'Avakai Biryani' and 'Kalavaramaye Madilo' actor talks about the film, its subject and more.

How did you land the role in 'Kutumba Katha Chitram'?

This offer came to me after 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Katamarayudu'. When the director first came to me, I was not sure about him. But he gave a very good narration. He translated his vision on to the celluloid very well.

How did the shooting of the film go?

We shot at a house in Gandipet where we would shoot every evening till 2 a.m. and take leave. We would travel there on our own. Once the product was ready, the producers watched it and found satisfactory. When they showed us the film, we too were quite happy with the output.

Who is playing the negative role between you, Nandu and Sre Mukhi?

That's a suspense for now. The director tried to complete many scenes in a single shot. Nandu and Sree Mukhi shot for many scenes at a stretch as they were too involved! In the scenes where they fight, they seem to be straight out of real life.

What are the film's highlights?

There are heart-touching scenes in the movie. The climax and the scene that stirs the conscience of parents who are after money at the expense of their kids' well-being is so cool.

How did you turn a character artiste from being a hero?

When I started out, I didn't want to do character roles. But I accepted 'Arjun Reddy' on the insistence of director Sandeep Vanga and also because my parents felt that I should first do such roles so as to endear myself to the audience. I did 'Katamarayudu', too, with the same thinking. After these two films, I am getting offers.

What are your upcoming movies?

I am doing a rom-com set in Vijayawada. This is the first time that I am shooting for a film in the city. Then there is another urbane love story that I am doing.

How is your architecture profession going on?

I have been an architecture for many buildings. I believe in no 'vasthu'. I believe in solid planning.
