A Karnataka based advocate has filed a sedition case against popular actress turned politician Divya Spandana aka Ramya for her comments about Pakistan.
Ramya who has been a top heroine in Kannada films has also acted in a few Tamil films. She is famous among Tamil people for her acting in Silambarasan's 'Kuthu' directed by A.Venkatesh, director Vetrimaran's debut film 'Polladhavan' in which she played the love interest of Dhanush and one of the three heroines of Suriya in 'Varanam Aayiram' directed by Gautham Menon.
Refuting Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's comment "going to Pakistan is like going to hell", Ramya, a memer of Indian National Congress party had stated "Pakistan is not hell, People there are just like us."
With this remark about Pakistan, the 33 year old actress-politician has drawn flak for allegedly supporting Pakistan and she is being branded anti-national` by right wing nationalists and BJP supporters in Twitter and other social media platforms. A post card campaign urging Ramya to vacate India and shit to Pakistan has been initiated by a pro-BJP activist in Mysuru.
Now an advocate named K.Vittal Gowda has filed sedition case against Ramya in a Court in Somwarpet of Southern Karnataka. In his petition Gowda has accused Ramya of "insulting India" and "provoking the people of India" by "appreciating Pakistan, which is a traditional enemy of India." He has also urged the Court to book the fomer MP Of Mandya constituency under Sedition charges. The Judge has posted the case for hearing on August 27 (Saturday).
But none of these allegations and accusations have affected the strong willed lady. Ramya has refused to apologize or withdraw her comments as she believes she has done nothing wrong and she is entitled to her views in a Democratic country like India.
