Kurralloy Kurrallu Review

It has become a practice in the recent past that the films of successful heroes or heroines in other languages are being dubbed into Telugu to cash in on their image and success. Srinivas Damera is no exception to it and he brought out a successful Tamil film `Bana Kathadi' where Samanta played the female lead into Telugu as `Kurralloy Kurrallu' following her successful entry into the Tollywood with films like `Ye Maya Chesave' and again in `Brindavanam'. The film has love in its backdrop and it runs with a gripping screenplay.

STORY

Ramesh (Atharva) is an average student from a slum and he is crazy about flying kites. Kumar (Karnas), who was his senior, is his best friend. Once Ramesh lost one of his favourite `Rajini' kite and while goes running for it he dashes Priya (Samanta), who was a fashion technology student. Accidentally, he takes away the pen drive of Priya along with the thread and other items. Priya keeps her six-month project work in it and has no backup in her laptop. Priya goes in search of Ramesh and the latter shrugs off that he did not steal the pen drive. Ramesh finds the same while giving his clothes for washing and goes to Priya to hand it over. Impressed with his attitude, Priya turns a good friend of Ramesh. Following his friends' advice, Ramesh goes to propose Priya and at the same time he wants to present a rice-grain with her name engraved on it at that time. While going to her, Ramesh wants to take away some Rs 100 from Kumar and unfortunately, he also snatches a condom from his pocket. Noticing the condom in the hands of Ramesh, Priya misunderstands him and hates him. Some more trouble await Ramesh as he witnesses the killing of an ex-MLA committed by local goon Ravi (Prasanna) who is basically a good-natured youth, who warns Ramesh to go elsewhere. Ramesh leaves for Gujarat to take part in a kite festival. However, Priya's friend tells her that Ramesh truely loved her. What Priya did to undo the mistake committed by her? Did Ramesh accept Priya's apology? What happened after Ramesh returns from Gujarat? Did the police catch Ramesh for being the witness of the murder? What happened to the love story between Ramesh and Priya? Answers to all these questions have to be seen on the screen.

PERFORMANCE

Atharva, though a deebutant, did a neat job. He had many similarities of another Tamil hero Simbu @ Silambarasan. He was comfortable to face camera. He showed good ease in dances and at the same time he emoted well in many scenes. Samantha delivered a good performance as fashion technology student. She looked glamorous and has got a good scope for performance. Prasanna stole the show as a goon with kind heart even with a limited screen presence. Comedy by Karunaas is okay and most of the scenes in his combination evoked both smiles and laughs. TP Gajendran as Kumar's father and Monica as Atharva's mother did justice to their roles.

CLAPWORTHY MOMENTS

The kite festival in Gujarat was shot in an impressive manner. The killing hero's friend in the hands of Prasanna was shot in an excellent manner. Samanta celebrating the hero's birthday in a hotel also is heart-touching. Richard M Nathan captured the lower income flats with dingy corners with his camera in a realistic way. As a cinematographer, he was able to capture the moods of slum-dwellers to suit the taste of the director. Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are average but the background music is good in parts. Badri Venkatesh tried to narrate a love story between a poor boy and a rich girl. The director lost grip on the story on many occasions, but recovered soon. The film moved at brisk pace till the interval but lost the tempo later.

CRINGEWORTHY MOMENTS

The director took cinematic liberties in bringing out the film. Such love stories are rare to occur in real life. The director ignored to establish the scenes properly in Gujarat backdrop and it is not very convincing that a hired killer would also have a kind heart and prevents youth from entering into the rowdy gangs. Likewise, the police rounding up the youth of slum localities and releasing them with the recommendation of a councilor is absurd.

VERDICT

Not so great film to watch, but just okay. Samanta is the only show-stealer and had got a good opportunity to perform. You can wait for a DVD to watch the movie. But for Samanta the film has nothing great to talk about.
