The NDA government at the Centre has formed a committee to look into the issue of the proposed excision of Secunderabad Cantonment Board's civilian areas with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The committee will comprise eight members.
The setting up of the committee by the Centre is being described by many as Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao's personal political and administrative victory.
The committee has been asked to submit the report by the end of this month or in the first week of February to the Ministry of Defence. The committee's recommendations, if implemented by the government, will impact the welfare of four lakh people.
The salaries and pensions of the employees of the Cantonment Board will be discussed by the committee among other issues. Funds, civil services, properties that are immovable, land and other key issues concerning the area will be deliberated upon. Road development will also be looked into.
