South’s ace filmmaker K.S.Ravikumar makes his big Bollywood entry with ‘Policegiri’, the remake of Tamil film ‘Saamy’. With Sanjay Dutt playing the lead (played by Vikram in original), the film is touted to be the most awaited action entertainer this year.

Going with the fact, the man who gave Kamal Haasan his landmark movie ‘Avvai Shanmugi’ (‘Chachi 420’ in Hindi) and Rajinikanth a worldwide star status with ‘Muthu’, it is a wonder how come such filmmaker as K.S.Ravikumar is making his Hindi debut so late. Ask about this the director is candid in saying, "I can’t say anything because it all happens because of God’s wish."

Referring to his Bollywood directorial debut ‘Policegiri’, Ravikumar stated, "I won’t say it’s a good launch for me, because I was supposed to have directed long back. But couldn’t do it because then I was busy with south film. It was Kamal Haasan who first suggested me (to direct Hindi film). I did ‘Avvai Shanmugi’ with him, my first film with Kamalji, and he wanted to remake it in Hindi. But I couldn’t do it since I was busy with Rajinikanth’s film."

Talking about ‘Policigiri’ the director revealed that the original base has not been touched and only few portions have been changed, since the base was powerful. "We have changed some scenes, because the original version will not suit Sanjay Dutt. And for that I have changed (the scenes) for Sanjay’s age, personality and body language.

And heroine’s portions we have totally changed..." said Ravikumar and added that even comedy portions and climax have been changed. In all, they said to have changed nearly 40 per cent from the original version.

As the first look launch of ‘Policigiri’ took place recently, the entire event was conspicuous of the absence of the lead hero Sanjay Dutt, who is currently serving imprisonment. "I really miss him now," said the director on the occasion and added, "He is really a good performer. He never asked a single question about anything throughout the film.

He is really confident and I really like that." The director is of opinion that an actor should never disturb a director while shooting a film, except during discussions. He stated that an actor should discuss or clarify about something before the making of the film or while finalising the script. But once a script is locked the artist should leave the director to do according to his own mind wave. "He, Sanjay Dutt, is a director’s artist," remarked Ravikumar whose next film ‘Kochadaiyaan’ starring superstar Rajini is eagerly awaited upon.

‘Policigiri’ stars Prachi Desai in female lead and the film is slated to release on 5th July. The Tamil version featured Vikram, Trisha, and Kota Srinivasa Rao (played by Prakash Raj in Hindi).
