Kamal Haasan after a month-long rest after surgery to his leg to remove a titanium rod is back with a bang going full swing in his political work and also his film career. He has acquired the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of the Bollywood film '83' directed by Kabir Khan that retells the story of how Kapil Dev and his Indian teammates won the World Cup for the first time in 1983 against all odds. Ranveer Singh plays the role of Kapil while Deepika Padukone is playing Roma Dev and Jiiva as Krishnamarchari Srikanth.
Kamal revealed in his speech that he knows Krishnamachari Srikanth's family well and he first offered him a role in his blockbuster all-time hit 'Apoorva Sagodharargal' but the latter did not accept. Many years later Kamal had once again approached Cheeka as the dashing opening batsman is fondly called to play one of the five heroes in 'Panchathanthiram'. Srikanth joined in and said that the role offered to him was the one later played by Yugi Sethu which he had agreed but as the time of shooting neared began having doubts and walked out.
