Jolly Joseph, the accused of the controversial Koodathayi serial murders case killing six members of her own family, attempted suicide inside the jail. In the early hours of Thursday, Jolly was found with a bleeding wrist in her jail cell by the police officials. She was rushed to Kozhikode district hospital and later shifted to medical college.
According to her statement given at the hospital, Jolly first bit her wrists and then rubbed it against the tiles and injured herself. Though nothing serious with her health, surgery will have to be performed to fix the injury, the official said. Police had inspected her cell and found no sharp objects from there to cut her hand. According to Police statement, Jolly had shown suicidal tendencies earlier too during the course of the investigation.
Jolly is accused of killing six members of her own family by giving cyanide-laced food over a period of 14 years. Jolly had allegedly first killed her mother-in-law Annamma Thomas in 2002, father-in-law Tom Thomas in 2008, her son and husband, Roy Thomas in 2011, Roy's maternal uncle, Mathew, in 2014 and relative Sily in 2016. Jolly is under judicial remand since her arrest in October, 2019.
