In a major development, Tamil Film Producers' Council has announced that there won't be any new releases, film shoots, and post-production activities in Kollywood from March 16.
It's a logical continuation of the recent showdown between film producers and Digital Service Providers. However, it goes beyond. TFPC demands that Qube and UFO shouldn't demand any more Virtual Print Fee. Ticket pricing should be allowed to be flexible is another of its demands. Reduction in online booking charges is its third demand. Computerized ticket facilities in all theatres is its fourth demand.
For the sake of small producers and the film industry, a suitable business model that incentivizes adequate release of small films should be evolved. Steps should be taken to reduce production costs.
TFPC further demands that theaters that only exhibit films on a pre-arranged basis should have no say in fixing ticket prices.
