Popular filmmaker and photographer Ronny Sen has alleged that he was attacked with a Bhojali (dagger/small knife) by a man named Avijit Dasgupta after he participated in an anti-CAA/NRC/NPR protest in Kolkata.
Happened last night! I was attacked with a 'Bhojali' (a weapon to kill) last night in Calcutta for anti CAA/NRC/NPR protests, Ronny's post on his social media page read. He has allegedly suffered minor injuries and has lodged a complaint with the police. Accusing a man named Avijit Dasgupta of sending him abusive messages on December 28 and eventually attacking him for his participation in the protest, Ronny further added, He was angry because of my posts against the NRC/CAA/NPR. I clearly tell him it's none of his business and he should not call me again. He kept on sending abusive messages none of which I replied to but finally yesterday night he attacked me with a 'Bhojali'. I am safe and unhurt. Immediately I lodged a police complaint last night. It's such a revelation that attacking, killing, shooting people in the name of nationalism is so normal in today's India.
Ronny Sen's debut feature film, Cat Sticks, was premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2019. Protests have been held across the country against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), under which illegal migrants of only the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan until December 31, 2014, will be eligible for Indian citizenship.
