Undoubtedly, 'Kochadaiiyaan' is the movie most looked forward to this year, with a Superstar release after three years since 'Enthiran'. The film which has turned Rajinikanth's younger daughter Soundarya into an able director, introducing the concept of motion capture photo-realistic film to Indian cinema. As is already known, 'Kochadaiyaan', as penned by KS Ravikumar, is the story of an able lieutenant of a brave king, who lived in the ancient Tamil land.

Kochadaiyaan the lieutenant is a fond lover of bravery, while his son Rana is equally skilled in warfare and dance. As for the casting, Rajinikanth in Kochadaiyaan's role is paired up with Shobhana, while Superstar in Rana's role has Deepika Padukone as his heroine. Villain in the plot is played by Jackie Shroff and Nassar plays the Rajaguru. Sarath Kumar is Kochadaiyaan's friend, and Rana's dance tutor is Rukmani and buddy is Aadhi. The film has been planned to be released in 3D, and the most interesting feature about the film's running time is attributed to be its shortened duration. Earlier, the film was to run for 145 minutes, but it has now been shortened to 125 minutes due to Rajinikanth's intervention and it is said that the film will not have any break or interval.

'Kochadaiyaan' boasts an album of six songs composed by AR Rahman, of which, the war-based motivational song 'Ethirikal Illai' is the Superstar's own favourite. Interestingly, this song has turned Rajinikanth into a singer after two decades, with the actor crooning the lyrics penned down by Vairamuthu in Tamil and Telugu, while the Hindi version of the song is sung by the composer himself. Further, Rajinikanth himself has dubbed for himself in the Kollywood and Tollywood versions of 'Kochadaiyaan'.
