Elected as an MLC in 2007 as an independent candidate, he subsequently joined the Telugu Desam Party. A notable achievement was his victory in the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections from the Kodangal seat, securing a substantial vote share of 46.45 percent. Despite a brief association with the TDP, Reddy joined Congress in 2017.

While facing internal criticism in the Congress for modifying the state chief's approach, he garnered unwavering support from the party's high command. Positioned as a prominent leader in Telangana, he stood shoulder to shoulder with CM KCR during the elections. Reddy's political journey boasts a victory in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat in 2019 by a margin of 10,919 votes. Appointed as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in 2021, he led the party in the 2023 Telangana elections, clinching success in Kodangal but encountering defeat in Kamareddy against BJP's K Venkata Ramana Reddy.
