Indian opener KL Rahul has undergone a surgery for sports hernia and is expected to be out of action for the next few months. The batsman travelled all the way to Germany with his girlfriend Athiya Shetty for the operation.
KL Rahul was all set to lead the country in the five-match T20I series against South Africa that happened earlier this month but he was forced to opt out of the tournament after suffering a groin injury. The opener was named the captain after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, as well as Jasprit Bumrah were rested for the series. Rahul took to Twitter late last night to inform his followers about the successful surgery and shared a picture of himself from his hotel room alongside.
“It’s been a tough couple of weeks but the surgery was successful. I’m healing and recovering well. My road to recovery has begun. Thank you for your messages and prayers. See you soon,” he wrote. In the last eight years, KL Rahul has played 42 Tests, 42 ODIs and 56 T20Is for the country. His rehabilitation will be monitored by the NCA Sports Science team once he returns to India.
