India's most prolific and highly revered singer K.J.Yesudas celebrates his 77th birthday today.
With more than 40,000 songs to his credit in Tamil, Malayalam. Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and all other Indian languages except Assamese, Konkani and Kashmiri. His huge repertoire of songs include songs in films, Carnatic concernts and devotional albums.
For decades, he has been the star attraction for Carnatic music festivals held across the country, including the music festivals held in Chennai in the month of December. The albums of his spiritual songs. It is a divine pleasure to listen him rendering the Harivarasanam song on lord Ayyappa.
His contribution to Indian film music industry cannot be described in a few words. It will be best explained by the fact that he has won the record number of seven National awards and more than 45 State awards from various State Governments in India.
Yesudas still continues to be a busy singer in individual concerts though he has cut down his film assignments.
