KISS Is Romantic, Not Raunchy: Sesh Adivi [Exclusive Interview]

  • IndiaGlitz, [Tuesday,September 10 2013]

Rare is a combination of beauty and brains and rare is this young man. Sesh Adivi seeped into the TFI through the western door. The first film he acted and directed ‘Karma’ was a philosophically rich portrayal of Indian siddhantha. His efforts were a failure at the box office but the industry took notice of him. The handsome hunk got to play the all important eccentric egoistic son of a mafia don in 'Panja' and that made many an eyebrow rise with surprise. He walked thru the character so well that seasoned actors were subdued in his presence for a while.

Passionate in thoughts, candid in his speech, Sesh gives a felling of a boy next door this moment but a star in the making the next. Here in this conversation, he takes us thru the small but eventful and intriguing journey of his career. Excerpts For you…

Hi I am Adivi Sesh. My new movie KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid will hit the screens on 13th September. I am sure you have been watching the updates on IndiaGlitz and listening to the music on Raaga. Please do watch it on September 13th.

People Tend To Slot Actors...

If you ask me who my favorite actor is, I say SV Ranga Rao. Reason is the versatility. You can see him a doting father, a cruel villain or a comic hero. I would try to become an SVR in my career. Our audiences, want to ‘slot’ an actor to a particular slot. A ‘vodina’, an ‘NRI son in law’ etc. I wish to break the pattern, do different roles, motivate directors to create new roles and make my mark as a good actor. You can see my efforts in the limited career of mine already. In 'Karma', I was a reserved guy, in ‘Panja’, an eccentric villain and in ‘KISS’, I am a fun loving energetic young man. I felt the difference from my previous roles while playing it myself and I am sure the same fun and joy would be felt by the audience. Before I attempted anything, people including my family members said 'How can you...' but they accepted after watching me on screen.

KISS Is Romantic, Not Raunchy...

KISS is a wonderful word, a sweet expression that can be translated to love, a mother’s, father’s, husband’s, sister’s or a girlfriend’s… So, please don’t come to watch a stupid half porn movie, you will be disappointed. What you have in store is a delightful romantic comedy, a joyful ride is what you are assured from watching the film.

My Brother Sai Kiran Adivi...

Sai Kiran has a very great creative say in the project though he didn’t direct the film. His contribution to the script is enormous, especially some sensitive expressions which he is a master of, having come from Sekhar Kammula school. We will be working together soon on another film.

KISS Has A Meaning...

KISS, has a meaning from both the female and male points of view. The girl thinks KISS is an act that one should experience after one falls in love but the guy has a deeper philosophical meaning to it. He says KISS is an acronym that expands to ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’ meaning every issue in life has to be treated in simple terms to achieve a solution or at least feel confident to fight. That’s his philosophy.

KISS Is A Simple RomCom...

KISS is a romantic comedy and if you want to compare with ‘Hum Tum’ or ‘Rangeela’ which have simple emotions embedded in a sensitive story among regular characters supported by soothing music. The characters look at the positive sides of everything, the camera shows only the beautiful parts of the locations and music is an important feature in the film. The title song has garnered great response with over two lac cumulative hits on YouTube.

Great Sound Tracks...

Music is no more a revenue earner for Telugu films but just a promotion tool. Of course, KISS had some good numbers in Ringtone downloads, iTunes downloads etc. But what I could see is that it’s on top of listeners’ choice lists. I happen to her the title song in several random places like cars, showrooms or even parties. That’s what keeps the movie buoyant and present. The music is a good fusion of Indian and Western and it’s so homogeneous, you won’t feel the variation. Sri Charan, a Vizag composer has given some melodies and Pete Wonders who composed the title song of ‘Karma’ gave the others. We opted for Sri Charan to arrange the BG scores and he did a splendid job.

It's A 24 Hour Journey...

Barring a few parts of the flash back, the story runs in the USA completely and just thru one day. The story between a small time thug who actually came to the US with an ambition to become a Hollywood hero and the girl.

I Owe It To Panja...

Karma could attract the industry but ‘Panja’ made me people- recognizable. I got some offers as a hero in small films or a villain in big films but I turned them down seeing nothing new for me to offer. KISS is only an attempt to portray myself in a different genre than showcasing my directorial abilities.

Yes, I am Doing 'Bahubali'

Yes, I was offered a prominent role in Bahubali and I am thankful to Raja Mouli. It needs a lot of grooming and I am starting to do it. It’s a dream role. The beauty of a Raja Mouli unit is the atmosphere which is full of friendly energy. They are so down to earth calling everyone by first names… Bahubali is going to be a game changer in many ways. And I am fortunate to be a part of such incredible project.

We Did A 'Keep It Simple' Tour...

KISS has Youth as its prime target group with the music, cool jokes and urbane get-go. We did an exercise touring the state connecting with collegiate, taking their feedback on the audio. We learnt a lot in the process and could spot the ground realities.

Pipeline Is Open...

I am totally engrossed with KISS and post KISS, I have Bahubali. As of now, just these two projects. I haven’t sign any new projects but I am sure will do something in September and keep you posted.

'Minugurulu' Story Of Blind Kids

Seldom in Telugu we get movies that touch hearts and even rarer are the cases where Telugu audiences are moved enough to come watch them on screen. The jinx for good movies with parallel in Telugu will never be understood but sensible producers with good heart always try and break the pattern. One such filmmaker is Ayodhya Kumar Krishnamsetty, who made his filmmaking course in Portland Northwest F
