Indian reality shows have often been criticised for being phony and distasteful. The latest one to receive the flak is 'Indian Idol 12'. The singing talent show has been one of the most popular reality shows of Indian television but recently it has experienced a downfall in the standards. Especially the recent episode, which was supposed to be a tribute to the legendary singer Kishore Kumar was criticised a lot.
The contestants were supposed bro perform only Kishore Kumar songs in the presence of his son Amit Kumar in attempt to pay tribute to the singer and along with them judges Neha Kakkar, Himesh Reshammiya and Anu Malik also performed on stage. They absolutely runied some iconic songs by singing them in their respective styles. This didn't go well with the viewers.
Amit Kumar, who was a guest at the show also opened up about it. He said, "Frankly, I wanted to stop the episode. I did what I was told. I was told sabko praise kamana hai. I was told jo jaisa bhi gaaye usko uplift karna hai because it’s a tribute to Kishore da. I thought it will be a homage to my father. But once there, I just followed what I was asked to do. I had told them to give me portions of the script in advance, but nothing of that sort happened."
