It is to be noted that in a recent interview, "Animal" director Sandeep Reddy Vanga slammed Kiran Rao and alleged she accused films like "Kabir Singh" of promoting stalking. He advised her to check out his ex-husband Aamir Khan's film "Dil," in which his character was almost trying to rape.
In response to Vanga, Kiran Rao said she never commented on his films and should talk to Aamir Khan. She commended Aamir for being responsible in cases where problematic elements are projected in his films. An old video of Aamir apologizing for objectifying women resurfaced after Vanga's remarks.
In her interaction with a news outlet, Kiran clarified that she had not spoken specifically about Vanga's movies and had restricted her commentary to discussing broader misogyny in cinema. She went on to praise Aamir for tendering his apologies regarding past mistakes, terming it commendable that he could be a man and take responsibility for his actions.
Kiran directly referred to Vanga and stated that if there's any issue, Vanga should convey it to Aamir, and she is not answerable for Aamir's doings, nor is his work entitled to her.
Such exchanges are blocking constructive conversation and support cancel culture, especially for directors like Sandeep Reddy Vanga.
