Vijay Deverakonda’s period drama Kingdom, which released in theaters on July 31, is making its way to OTT sooner than expected. While films usually take at least a month or more to debut online, the trend of early digital releases continues with Kingdom arriving on Netflix on August 27.
The film will be available for streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam under the title Kingdom, while the Hindi version will release as Samrajya.
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and largely set in Sri Lanka, the film opened to massive collections on its first day but failed to sustain momentum at the box office. Critics and audiences pointed out that the absence of a strong musical score and a weak romantic track between Vijay Deverakonda and Bhagyashri Borse limited its appeal to younger audiences.
Despite its theatrical underperformance, Kingdom managed to secure a solid recovery through its OTT deal. Netflix reportedly paid a hefty price for the digital streaming rights, ensuring profits for producer Naga Vamsi.
