King Nagarjuna: ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ is a Sankranti Festive Feast

Nagarjuna is gearing up to captivate and entertain movie enthusiasts with his upcoming film, “Naa Saami Ranga,” directed by choreographer Vijay Binni. The much-anticipated film is set to hit the screens on January 14, 2024. As a precursor to the release, Nagarjuna engaged in an interactive session with the press.

Q: Is ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ the quickest film you’ve completed in your career?

A: Undoubtedly, when we look at the timeline from the start of shooting to the release date, ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ stands out as one of the fastest projects in my career. It’s not just about working days; we managed to complete the shoot in 72 days, with my personal involvement spanning 60 days. Efficient pre-production played a pivotal role in achieving this speed. Thankfully, we meticulously planned for this film. Having maestro Keeravani as our music director was a stroke of luck. Three songs were ready even before we commenced shooting, and the background music for the fight sequence was pre-prepared. Shooting the fight scenes with the pre-prepared background music was a game-changer. Keeravani’s contribution played a significant role in the film’s swift production, and he emerged as the star of our movie with every song being exceptional.

Q: What drew you to the story of ‘Naa Saami Ranga’?

A: The film’s narrative encompasses elements like friendship, love, sacrifice, and faith, which completely captivated me. It’s a beautiful storytelling experience filled with profound human emotions.

Q: Is it true that ‘Sankranti Prabhala Teertham’ is a first on the Telugu screen?

A: Absolutely, the story unfolds during the three days of Bhogi, Sankranti, and Kanuma, set against the backdrop of Sankranti Prabhala Teertham. As a festival close to our hearts, this film, set in the 80s, is a must-watch for the festive season.

Q: ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ has a Malayalam origin. What precautions were taken for a Telugu audience?

A: Retaining the essence of the story was a top priority. Kudos to director Binni for meticulous adaptation, and Prasanna for seamlessly blending it with Telugu nativity.

Q: Thoughts on Aashika Ranganath’s role in the film?

A: Aashika delivers an outstanding performance in a unique love story that unfolds from the age of 12, showcasing our romantic journey over two decades.

Q: Tell us about director Vijay Binni and his visual sense.

A: Vijay Binni possesses an exceptional visual sense, evident in the beautifully choreographed songs. His storytelling through song sequences is admirable, and his clarity as a director is commendable.

Q: What can you share about the roles of Allari Naresh and Raj Tarun in the film?

A: Naresh’s role, centered around brotherhood, was conceptualized before Binni joined the project. Raj Tarun also plays a crucial character in the narrative.

Q: The title ‘Naa Saami Ranga’—can you elaborate?

A: The title is inspired by a song from Nanna Garu’s film, perfectly complementing our story and resonating at various points in the movie.

Q: Was it challenging to meet production deadlines?

A: The entire team, from the director to the camera department and post-production teams, worked tirelessly. Seamless coordination among departments ensured a smooth process.

Q: What about the action sequences in the film?

A: The action sequences are intense and chaotic, setting ‘Naa Saami Ranga’ apart in terms of action.

Q: Thoughts on the producers and their support?

A: Srinivasa Chitturi is an excellent producer. Our bond is strong, and he provided unwavering support throughout the film.

Q: Any plans for a film with Mahesh Babu in the future?

A: That’s something to consider after he completes the film with Rajamouli (laughs).

Q: Can you share details about your next movie?

A: Currently, I am immersed in a project directed by Shekar Kammula.
