King Charles ascended the throne on September 8, 2022, succeeding Queen Elizabeth, with his official coronation on May 6, 2023. Less than 18 months into his reign, the 75-year-old monarch has been diagnosed with cancer. Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles would temporarily withdraw from public engagements for medical treatment, aiming for a prompt return to full duties.

Despite concerns about a potentially assertive leadership style due to his environmental activism background, King Charles remains committed to fulfilling royal duties after completing necessary medical treatment. A recent three-night hospital stay addressed an enlarged prostate.

The disclosure of King Charles's cancer diagnosis coincided with Princess Kate's recovery from abdominal surgery and a two-week hospitalization. Buckingham Palace revealed that a separate cancer issue was identified during the recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. King Charles has started regular treatments, postponing public duties while continuing State business.

Expressing gratitude for swift medical intervention, King Charles shared his diagnosis to prevent speculation and contribute to public understanding of cancer. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and opposition leader Keir Starmer conveyed well-wishes for King Charles's speedy recovery. Sunak expressed confidence in the monarch's swift return to full strength, while Starmer extended best wishes for a prompt recovery on behalf of the Labour Party.
