American media personality Kim Kardashian West has filed for divorce from her rapper husband Kanye West after nearly 7 years of marriage. Kim Kardashian's court filing cites irreconcilable differences for their breakup.

The actress has reportedly sought joint custody of their four children and the assets will be divided based on their prenuptial agreement. Reports suggest that trouble between the pair started back in 2018 when Kanye made a controversial statement suggesting that slavery was a choice. A source was quoted as saying by a publication, "The turning point in Kim and Kanye's marriage was when he said that slavery was a choice. They went through a really rough patch in the aftermath of that. Kim was completely mortified by Kanye's ridiculous and outrageous comments. But when Kanye told the world that he and Kim had discussed aborting North (in July 2020), it was the breaking point in their marriage." While speculations of their divorce were doing the rounds earlier, a source close to the couple had stated last month, "It's gotten to the point where they haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months. They've seen each other for the sake of the kids but have been living separately. Kim knows the marriage is over. She's known for a while."

"She wants to make sure she's making the right decision for the kids. It's not about the marriage anymore, she'll always care for Kanye but it's over between them. Kim is only focused on what's best for the kids. It's a tough decision for her and she's figuring it out. The marriage was in deep trouble for the last half of 2020. In fact, we're told Kim was ready to pull the plug on the marriage at one point but it was when Kanye was going through a serious bipolar episode and she felt it was cruel to do it when he wasn't well," the source added. Kim and Kanye got married in 2014 and have four children - North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
