After striking gold at the box-office with 'Kick', Surender Reddy and Ravi Teja teamed up once again for 'Kick 2'. This time, the film has got much bigger as Kalyan Ram joined them as the producer. What is the film all about ? Does the 'Kick' combo repeat the magic once again ? Let's see.
'Kick 2' is about a self-obsessed narcissist, Robin Hood (Ravi Teja), who believes that "The world would be a comfortable place to live, only when everyone looks after their individual comfort", but eventually, realizes that "It is only when the people around you are comfortable and peaceful, you would be comfortable".
The film starts with Kalyan (Ravi Teja's character in 'Kick'), who settles in USA in search of kick tells about his son Robin Hood (a young Ravi Teja) to his 'Partner' Kalyan Krishna (played by Shaam). He tells about Robin's self-centered nature and how he has been a source of 'anxiety' for him since his birth.Back in India, in a village named Vilaspur, Rajasthan, there is a dreaded criminal named Solomon Singh Tagore (Ravikishan), who believes himself to be the son of God. He tortures people there, kills whoever confronts him and make their children addicted to drugs. The people in the village desperately look for a savior. Robin comes to India to sell his grandfather's property and resides in the house of Pandit Ravi Teja (Brahmanandam). He comes across Chaitra (Rakul Preet), an aspiring writer, who looks for an inspiring story. She falls for Robin Hood's guts and proposes him. Does Robin accept her love ? What is the relation between him and Vilaspur villagers ? What is the reason behind his transformation ? These questions form the crux of the story.
'Kick' was very successful because of the high entertainment quotient. But in 'Kick 2', the emphasis is more on the story and director Surender Reddy didn't deviate from it. The dose of sentiment is good and didn't go overboard. Some scenes which show the plight of the villagers and how desperate they are to get rid of gruesome Tagore have been shot really well. In a particular scene, a villager fights with a dog for chicken and the scene is heartrending. The emotional scenes, the dialogues that comes between Tanikella Bharani and Ravi Teja are very good. The scenes between Ravi Teja and Brahmanandam leave the audiences in splits. Ravi Teja is gung-ho in the role of Robin Hood and excels in it. But he doesn't look so good in the lean avatar. Rakul Preet gets to play a lengthy role and the story is centered around her character. She does a commendable job in comedy, sentiment and also romance.Kalyan Ram spent lavishly on the film and the production values are rich. The chemistry between Ravi Teja and Rakul Preet is sizzling. Bollywood actors Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra performed very well as villagers. Ravikishan will sure get a firmer foothold as a villain in Tollywood. As a frightful villain Tagore, he did a good job. 'Jil' fame Kabir plays a small but important role. Posani Krishna Murali, Kovai Sarala, Prithviraj etc are limited to small roles. The fights are well-choreographed by Ram-Laxman. Manoj Paramhamsa's cinematography is topnotch and the BGM of Thaman is gripping.
All in all, 'Kick 2' is a very good entertainer with a good message.
