DGP S.R.Jangid is the man who is the inspiration for Karthi's Dheeraj's character, played by Karthi, in 'Khakee'. It's he who led the team that nabbed the dacoit gang of Bawarias, who have been convicted as being responsible for many ruthless killings in Tamil Nadu in the late 90s.
Jangid, who watched a special screening of the film's Tamil version recently, was all praises for Karthi and director H Vinoth.
He said that the director has portrayed the incidents that took place during their mission to nab the dacoits, exactly in the film.
Jangid says, "The way we kidnapped Patwari Dharam Singh, the only educated in the Havelis, the way we nabbed the criminals using finger prints and many of the incidents were portrayed exactly in the film. There was a newly married DSP in our team. Karthi performed like a trained commando and he looks like a real cop. Kudos to the director for his research".
"The way the Havelis attacked us was fare more violent than what was shown in the film. As the team's leader, I used to travel more than 500 kms. We had faced problems in North as we couldn't speak Hindi. We would cook ourselves as shown in the film. Haveli gang leader Oma Bawaria died in the jail. Two criminals from the gang were shot by us. Though some of them got bail, they won't dare to come to Tamil Nadu again," the cop adds.
'Khakee' has been running to packed houses and the film is steady at the box-office. Umesh Gupta and Subhash Gupta and Aditya Music Pvt.Ltd produced the film in Telugu.
