Keralas unique Umbrella initiative is winning the internet!

A village in Kerala has found a new way to enforce social distancing measures as part of protective measures against Covid-19 is going viral! On Sunday, Alappuzha's Thanneermukkom village in Kerala has mandated that all residents must hold an umbrella when they step outside. As you know, Thanneermukkom is one of the hotspots for Covid-19 in the district.

Taking to Twitter, Kerala Minister Thomas Isaac said that if two umbrellas are opened it does not touch each other by which it will ensure a minimum distance of 1 meter between two persons. The panchayat authorities will also be handing out two masks for every umbrella they give away.

Isaac took to Twitter and wrote, "To enforce physical distancing, Thanneermukkom GP in Alappuzha, mandates that everyone hold an umbrella when they go. 2 opened umbrellas, not touching each other, will ensure min distance of 1 meter from one another. Umbrellas distributed at a subsidized rate." He had also shared a picture of the Umbrella initiative, which is a part of the Break the Chain project that was launched last week as part of protective measures being undertaken against Covid-19.
