In yet another shocking incident, a woman in Kerala jumped off a moving train in a bid to escape from an alleged rape attempt. The 31-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries on her head and body and is under treatment in a private hospital in Kochi.
The incident happened on Wednesday in the Guruvayur-Punalur Express. The woman boarded the train from Mulanthuruthy station in Ernakulam district at around 8.45 a.m, to reach her workplace in Alappuzha. Reportedly, the compartment which the woman had boarded was empty. After the train started moving from the station, the accused man leaped and got inside the coach, and started to shut the doors of the compartment. Threatening her with a screwdriver, the man attacked the woman snatching away her gold ornaments and mobile phone.
When she resisted, the man grabbed her by her hair and dragged her to the toilet. The woman managed to get away from his clutches and opened the doors of the train. As the train slowed down at the level cross, the woman jumped off the train near Piravom. The local residents who saw her jumping off the train took her to a nearby hospital before alerting Mulanthuruthy police, who shifted her to a city hospital.
The accused has been identified as Bijukuttan, who had been earlier also nabbed in snatching gold ornaments from women. Bijukuttan is reportedly absconding. The Railway Protection Force has issued a lookout notice to nab the man. Railways are viewing the incident seriously as a similar incident had happened on a train in 2011 when a 23-year-old woman was attacked in a similar fashion on a moving train. The accused had pushed her off the train before raping and killing her.
