Theatres in Kerala, which first closed in March 2020, had reopened later than other states after 10 months, in January 2021. However, they had to be closed again in mid-April following the second wave of COVID-19. Much to the excitement of movie buffs, the Kerala government had eased the restrictions and theatres across the state are now set to reopen on Wednesday, October 27. Daniel Craig’s last Bond movie No Time To Die will be screened in all the theatres on the opening day. The first Malayalam movie to be screened after theatres reopen will be Joju George’s Star, starting October 29.
“Entry is allowed only for those who have taken both the doses of the vaccine. It means, only less than fifty percent of the population will be allowed to enter. After all, people below 18 years of age are not allowed as they are not vaccinated. We will definitely miss a large chunk of film lovers between the ages of 15 to 18,” said G Suresh Kumar, President of Film Chamber of Commerce. He further added that in the first week of November, two Tamil movies - Rajinikanth's Annatthe and Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor will be released. Mission C directed by Vinod Guruvayur and Joju George's 'Star' will hit the screens on October 29. Among the big Malayalam projects, Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup will release on November 11 and Suresh Gopi starrer Kaaaval will release on November 24. However, there is still no word on Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, the Mohanlal starrer which has been awaiting release for more than a year and a half, but had to be pushed due to COVID-19. It is assumed that two big Malayalam films will reach theatres by Christmas.
