In a latest development in the death case of a pregnant elephant in Kerala, the Kerala Forest Department has arrested a person involved in the death. The one-month pregnant elephant died in Palakkad on May 27, after her jaws were injured severely due to explosives.

As reported by Palakkad Superintendent of Police G Siva Vikram they've arrested a person named P Wilson, working as a rubber tapper in a plantation. Wilson is one of the three persons who were taken into custody for questioning and few more persons will be arrested today in connection with the elephant's death.

The Forest Department has said that they have identified three persons involved in the case, and two FIRs have been registered by the Forest Department and the police. The police FIR has been registered under section 9B (1)(b) of the Explosive Act, 1884. Another case was registered under section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. On May 27, the elephant was seen standing in the Velliyar river and passed away at 4 pm, and it's death was attributed to lung failure and drowning initially. Later, the jaw damage was identified and the post mortem report confirmed that this injury prevented the elephant from eating or drinking water for two weeks before death.
