In a bizarre incident, few residents of Kerala’s Thrissur district were left shocked when their tap water got mixed with alcohol. The incident happened recently at Solomon’s Avenue Flat in Chalakudy, affecting a total of 18 families. Reportedly the water was smelling and tasting like liquor.
In the residents' attempt to find the source of this alcohol mix, it was found that the liquor seized by the excise department about six years ago was disposed-off near the residence, by the officials. Reportedly, the alcohol was seized from a nearby bar named Rachana. In order to dispose of around 6,000 litres of liquor, the officials is said to have dug a huge pit near the apartment area.
As the well, from which the residents drew water, was located close to the periphery of the bar property, the alcohol is believed to have seeped into the soil and mixed with water making its way to the well.
After the locals approached the Chalakudy municipality, the health officials conducted an examination and proved the presence of alcohol in water. Followed by which the excise officials inspected the spot and promised that the families will be provided with drinking water until the well is cleaned.
However, the residents have filed complaints against the excise officials for their careless act.
