When many chain smokers are struggling to quit the act, here's a Kerala man who is leading by example. A 75-year-old Kerala man named Venugopal Nair quit smoking almost 8 years ago and began to save up the amount spent on buying smokes. And now, after eight years, he has managed to save a whopping amount of Rupees 5 lakh.
Venugopal, who got addicted to smoking in his teens, had to quit smoking after a medical check-up acted as a wake-up call for him. Apparently, he was a chain smoker and would easily smoke away one-and-a-half to two packets in a day which roughly counts up to 20 smokes per day.
The market price for a pack of cigarettes was Rs 50 eight years ago. This amount was saved by him for the past eight years and saved Rs 5 lakh, the amount he would have spent on cigarettes had he not quit smoking. Now he wishes to invest his 'cigarette savings' of rupees 5 lakh for the construction of second storey to his house.
