A man from Kerala has been arrested for sexually exploiting women on Facebook by threatening to expose their morphed obscene pictures in public.
The 25-year-old accused had befriended over 50 women on Facebook, mostly housewives, and began talking to them about their family problems. When the women revealed details about their respective husbands to him, he created more fake Facebook accounts, which he used to get in touch with their husbands. He posed as a female in those chats, and took screenshots of the conversations and forwarded them to the wives, convincing them of their spouses’ “illicit affairs.” Following this, he invited the women for video chats, where he took their pictures and morphed them onto obscene pictures, which he later used to blackmail them.
The police arrested the man and recovered the personal details and the obscene pictures of the victims from his laptop. The incident is yet again a wake-up call for people who share more personal information than required on social media.
