Kerala has been facing a shortage of face masks even as the COVID-19 pandemic is having a huge impact on the state. Now, the Kerala government has mad a great move, by engaging the tailoring units of jails across Kerala to produce masks.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the tailoring units of prisons in Kerala have been given the instructions to manufacture the masks, and that the work has commenced on a war footing basis.
Pinarayi Vijayan had tweeted "#COVID19 | Solving The Mask Problem In light of the shortage, directions were given to engage the prisons in the State in manufacturing masks. It has commenced on a war footing basis. Today, the Prison officials of Thiruvananthapuram Jail have handed over the first batch." Two days back, the first batch of masks from the Central Prison in Thiruvananthapuram was handed to health department officials.
