The Kerala government is reportedly planning to start an OTT platform in order to encourage small films made in the State. This is going to be the first of its kind initiative in the country, where private players such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar have been dominant.
The Kerala Minister for Cinema and Culture Saji Cherian has been quoted as saying that big-scale and star vehicles will not need the OTT platform but small films definitely do. Plans are afoot to revamp the Chithranjali Studio, owned by the government, in Thiruvananthapuram. At a time when States such as Uttar Pradesh are planning to enable the construction of large film cities, Kerala has joined the bandwagon to attract investments and production houses in South India to flock to Kerala to shoot movies.
Tollywood writer-producer Kona Venkat said that it’s a great initiative on the part of the Kerala government to kickstart an OTT platform. He urged Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Cinematography Minister Talasani Yadav and Mekapati Goutham to try to think in a similar direction to help the Telugu film Industry.
