Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday had called for tough action against people violating lockdown imposed hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s announcement on Tuesday night for a 21-day national lockdown in an effort to contain the coronavirus spread. On the first day of lockdown in Kerala on Tuesday, disappointing the government, several people violated the regulations by unnecessarily stepping out of the house. Reportedly, the police have registered 402 cases across the state, for violating the lockdown guidelines.

In terms of the total number of cases booked against offenders, Thiruvananthapuram district leads with 123 cases followed by Kollam (70), Kottayam (10), Alappuzha (24), Idukki (48), Ernakulam (69), Thrissur (21), Wayanad (13), Malappuram (6), Kannur (10), Kozhikode (2) and Palakkad (1). Meanwhile, In Pathanamthitta, police took action against 18 individuals, suspected of coronavirus, for breaking their quarantine.

Even as people in Kerela continued to remain under lockdown for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, 14 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the state taking the total number of cases to 105 (excluding four discharged). Meanwhile, India has reported about 536 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. 11 people have died so far due to the deadly virus.
