On Wednesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. Pinarayi and his wife Kamala took the vaccine from Thycaud government hospital as part of the second phase of the COVID vaccine immunization drive in the state.
After the vaccination, the Chief Minister appealed to all to take the vaccine without any hesitation and criticised those involved in spreading rumours and misinformation against taking the shot. “Took the COVID-19 vaccination today. Without any hesitation, everybody should get vaccinated when they get the opportunity and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We will together overcome COVID-19,” the CM’s press note read.
Later, in a tweet, Mr Vijayan said, "Took the first dose of COVID vaccine today. Vaccines provide immunity to diseases. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as and when it is available. Together, let us overcome this pandemic through scientific methods."
The vaccination drive is being carried out for all persons who are 60 years and above as well as those over 45-60 years with comorbidities. On Tuesday, Health Minister KK Shailaja Teacher, Sports Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran, and Minister of Revenue and House E Chandrasekharan also received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
