The entire nation was shocked when the news came out of a nun belonging to the Catholic congregation of Missionaries accused a bishop of rape multiple times. However, the Church body had claimed that the nun resorted to accusing as a woman had earlier accused the nun of having an affair with her husband in 2016.

The Church had also noted that the bishop wasn’t staying at the Kerala convent on the day that the nun accused him of raping the first time. Apart from this it also brought to notice that a nun cannot be in the company of a man with two other women and so it would have been impossible for her to have met 13 times with the bishop.

However, police investigation reports submitted with the Kerala High Court say that the nun had been raped multiple times indeed. While many nuns in Kerala have been protesting the lack of strictness dealing with the case, PC George an MLA has questioned the nun’s morality. “No one has doubt that the nun is a prostitute. Twelve times she enjoyed it and the 13th time it is rape? Why didn't she complain the first time?” he said.

Jalandhar diocese’s Bishop Franco Mulakkal has refuted the charges against him saying that it is a conspiracy against the church. Moreover, he had also filed complaints against the nun and their families that he was threatened by them.
