Several alcoholics in the country were under stress after they couldn't get their daily peg of alcohol after liquor outlets were shut due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Though the reopening of liquor outlets in the state is yet to be announced, here's a piece of exciting news for the boozers in Kerala.
The Kerala State Beverage Corporation (KSBC), that has been working on a virtual queue system to avoid the rush from liquor shop in the COVID-19 lockdown period developed a new app to purchase liquor. Named ‘Bev Q’, the app will be freely available on Google play store and Apple App store as soon as they are approved.
Over 301 public sector liquor outlets, 500 bars, and 230 beer and wine parlors in the state are listed with the app. The test of the outlets will be added after they show interest. If the permit is obtained today, a trial run will be done and it is expected that by tomorrow night, the app will be opened for the consumers.
Through the app, that has a GPS facility, the customer can locate the nearest liquor outlets and a token can be booked. The tokens will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. On the token number they would get a position in the physical queue outside the respective Bevco outlet and the customer can purchase liquor within the time frame mentioned in the token. The spot in the virtual queue can be booked using the name, phone number, and place. In the current phase of the app, the customer cannot choose the brand of the liquor.
A Kochi-based firm has developed the app, that had already passed many stages of trial and is expected to be approved soon. Well, the Beverages authorities have informed that the iquor sale will resume as soon as the app is ready.
