With nationwide lockdown over coronavirus outbreak, millions of people got stranded and are seeking to return home. For Keralites who are struck in other states and want to return to their hometown, can register in the NORKA website. The registrations began since Wednesday and the state is all set to welcome over returnees through the Walayar, the Kerala –Tamil Nadu border region checkpoints from 8 am on Monday to 6 pm.

With all necessary measures and precautions, 120 police officers in three shifts will take in charge of controlling the incoming vehicles. Those who have registered in the NORKA website and obtained pass will be allowed to enter the state after a detailed examination. For this, 16 counters are set up. After screening, those with symptoms will be shifted to the district hospital and others will undergo home isolation.

Apart from Walayar, there are five other entry points for Keralites - Injivila in Thiruvananthapuram, Aryankavu in Kollam, Kumali in Idukki, Muthanga in Wayanad and Manjeshwaram in Kasaragod.

Meanwhile, over 1 lakh people who have registered in NORKA have demanded the state government to arrange vehicles or train for their return as they are unable to arrange their own vehicle at this crucial time. However, the state government currently gives priority to those who arrange their own vehicle. A decision to provide train service, like how migrant workers were sent to their hometown from Kerala, is expected in the coming days.
