In an outrageous incident, a 75-year-old woman who has been suffering from memory loss was brutally assaulted and raped by two men and a woman, who lured her on the pretext of feeding tobacco.

The three accused, identified as Mohammed Shafi (48), a native of Chembarakky in Aluva, Omana (60), of Asarimoolayil, Eruppoochira and Omana's son Manoj (40), were arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday. The incident reportedly happened at 10.30 am on Sunday when Omana had invited the 75-year-old woman to her house for tea and tobacco. Over there, Mohammed Shafi, who is apparently a friend of Omana, sexually abused the woman even as she tried to resist. She was then stabbed in several parts of her body and brutally injured, including her private parts. After she was dumped in her house at 4.30 pm by the accused, locals found her and rushed her to the MOSC Medical College Hospital in Kolenchery, where she underwent an emergency surgery. A medical bulletin issued by the hospital reportedly read, "The condition of the woman has improved slightly and her vital signs are returning to normal. There is improvement in her mental state too."

A police official reportedly told a news agency, "While one of the accused raped her, the other, who was drunk, assaulted her brutally. This happened at the house of one of the accused. The woman also has certain mental health and memory loss issues." Stating that strong action will be taken against the accused, Kerala's Health Minister KK Shailaja also mentioned that that the government will bear the expenses of the woman's treatment.
