Earlier this week, Kent RO released an ad to promote its Atta maker. The ad said that domestic helps can be carriers of Covid-19 if they are allowed to do kneading. "Are you allowing your maid to knead the atta dough by hand? Her hands might be infected. Don't compromise on health and purity and buy the Kent Bread and Atta maker," the Ad said in a pitch to rev up the sale of its product.
Soon after its release, thousands on social media trolled Kent for promoting classism. They also said that it makes the life of maids difficult by promoting the stereotype that they are carriers of coronavirus. "As a working woman who’s life has been made easy by maids, I am indebted to these women who slog their ass to feed their families. Pity that Ad maker ridicules it. It is truly stupid to believe that cleanliness and hygiene are solely dependent on economics. Yes they may not have access to 24hrs water or fancy bathroom but cleanliness is a personal choice and not class. Yes money makes it easier to live well. That’s all!" a social media user said.
Following the outrage, Kent has taken down the ad. It has apologized to everyone for "unintentionally" coming up with the "wrong" ad.
