Like how no story is written but rewritten this remake of Tamil film `Singam' (Suriya film released in May 2010) a bumper crop is having all the shades of a an entertainer and the pace of the film, force of the film, purpose of the film, technical qualities and production values are much above in standards.
Actor turned director Sudeep has not left any shortfalls expect that he has done similar kind of role. The last cop role `Veera Madhakari' was loaded with action but not the force. Here the force and concise style is what makes his fans go crazy.
The upright cop Kempe Gowda (Sudeep) falls in love with Kavya (Ragini) daughter of Dr Girish Karnad. Kavya father has some reservations on the police department. Kempe Gowda taming of the father in law and succeeding in his love is one part of the film. In his native Rona of Hubli this Kempe Gowda has a hard core criminal Armugam (Ravishanker) who was once asked to kneel down in the police station. As the perfect cop Kempe Gowda is transferred to Bangalore (the place evolved by Kempe Gowda according to history pages) the cases of Armugam also shift but the rivalry reaches peak between the two. How the height of rivalry between cop and criminal ends up the climax of this film.
It is a perfect uniform and precise role to the image of Kiccha Sudeep. As a director and actor he gets full applause. Like an angry young man (we remember Ramachari - Dr Vishnuvardhana opening film `Nagarahavu'). Sudeep never kneels down in treating his fans. In fact he makes them kneel down with respect for his terrific strength on the silver screen. The dialogues are hard hitting and action portions plus comedy scenes he steals the first. Next is Ravishanker - `Rakhas in Acting' Ravishanker comes close in popularity.
Ragini is a beauty to watch again and again. Her combination with Sudeep for the second time is to the `T'. Dr Karnad, Thara heightens the sentiment level in the film. The comedy portions are also interesting in the film.
The title song on Kempe Gowda is superb. There are two more passable melodies from music director Arjun. The cinematography of S Krishna state award winner for `Mungaru Male' is very neat and circumspect. The art direction and editing plus technical standards are that give special marks even though it is a remake.
It is a good - Cop-Criminal saga!
Score - 7/10
