Mollywood's sensation Dulquer Salmaan is all set to make his debut in Tollywood by playing the role of the legendary Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in the Savithri biopic, Mahanati. The movie which revolves around Savithri's personal life and her acting career will also capture the tragic episodes in her life. Keerthy Suresh will be playing the title role of Savithri.

The film's director Nag Ashwin recently revealed why the team chose to go with the Malayali stars for playing Gemini Ganesan. According to Nag Ashwin, there's an epic love story in Savithri's life, as her relationship with Ganesan was pivotal in being the actress she was. He also added that the team was very particular on who will the portray as Gemini Ganesan and Savithri as they wanted it to be one of the greatest love stories ever told. That's how they zeroed down to Dulquer Salmaan and Keerthy Suresh as the lead pair.

Nag Ashwin also revealed that Dulquer will playing the different phases of Ganesan, for which he will be sporting multiple looks. Titled Mahanati in Telugu and Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil, the movie also has Samantha in a pivotal role. If all goes well, the movie will start rolling by next month.
