With media reports emphasizing that Telangana Home Minister Mahmood Ali is taking Covid-19 treatment in a corporate hospital in Jubilee Hills, several social media users are trolling Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. There are reports that a few VIPs, especially three members of the ruling TRS, are also getting corporate treatment for the virus.
"On the one hand, the facilities are abysmal at Gandhi Hospital. On the other hand, important people get the best treatment from taxpayers' money. Several patients showing symptoms have been turned down by hospitals in Hyderabad. Even timely testing has become a luxury in the State," a Facebook user lamented.
"Nobody grudges the VIP treatment accorded to the Home Minister and other politicians. But when the common man is having to grapple with systemic flaws, the sense of injustice is stark," a commentator said.
This is compounded by the fact that a 35-year-old patient recently died at the Government Chest Hospital in Erragadda admittedly for want of oxygen supply.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Monday announced that Covid testing will resume in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation from Tuesday (June 30). He said that asymptomatic patients won't be tested. While sticking to the target of completing 50,000 tests in Hyderabad, the Minister didn't elaborate further.
