Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was born on 28 June 1921. This year marks his birth centenary. KCR, who has been appropriating the late Congress leader, is intent on naming the new district after the son of Telangana.
The new district will reportedly be carved out from the northern part of the Telugu State. Huzurabad is said to be under consideration. In July last year, civil society leaders representing various sections of Huzurabad urged the KCR government to make Huzurabad a new district and name it after PVNR. This has been a pending demand ever since the government raised the number of districts from 10 to 33.
Back then, the then Health Minister Eatala Rajendar and Rajya Sabha member Captain Laxmikantha Rao were inclined to have their say in the issue. Now that Rajendar has quit the TRS, KCR is said to be wanting to expedite the decision in order to deny Rajendar of any political capital.
