The ruling BRS party had planned an extravagant celebration for “Deeskha Divas,” intending to mark the historic day when KCR initiated a fast unto death, advocating for the formation of Telangana. The event was scheduled to take place at the BRS Bhavan in Hyderabad on November 2, 2023, commemorating the 14th anniversary of this significant moment that ultimately led to the establishment of Telangana.
However, the implementation of the Election Code has posed a challenge for the party, preventing them from carrying out their initially elaborate plans. According to Election Commission guidelines, all political campaigns must cease 48 hours before the polling day, which translates to 5 pm on November 28.
BRS working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao, on Sunday, urged party cadres to creatively observe the occasion by hoisting flags on rooftops and engaging in social service activities. He emphasized the annual celebration’s purpose—to honor KCR’s unwavering commitment to statehood and his willingness to make personal sacrifices for its attainment.
Despite this call for a subdued observance, an election squad team visited the BRS Bhavan and instructed party workers and leaders not to proceed with the planned event due to the prevailing electoral code. In response, BRS party leaders are in consultation with legal counsel to navigate the complexities of the situation.
Amidst these developments, Chief Minister KCR, who also serves as the president of BRS, rushed to the BRS Bhavan. Tensions and emotions are running high, with the BRS party eager to celebrate the event and evoke the Telangana sentiment in the run-up to the polling day on November 30, 2023. The current impasse underscores the delicate balance between political expression and adherence to electoral regulations, creating an atmosphere of anticipation and uncertainty as the party seeks a resolution.KCR is keen to win the elections and complete a hattrick and become the first CM from south to become CM thrice.
