Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has urged the Centre to start holding recruitment exams in not just Hindi and English but also in regional languages. In a letter to Narendra Modi, the CM said that the current system puts those from non-Hindi speaking States and who have not gone to English Medium schools at a disadvantage in competitive exams.

"All posts in central government, central PSUs, Indian Railways, Defence Services, nationalized banks, etc. are held only in English and Hindi. In order to provide an equal and fair opportunity to students from all States, it's important that candidates are permitted to write exams in regional languages, too," the letter says.

KCR's letter further says that the Centre should work out with UPSC, RRB, SSC and PSBs to ensure the needful.

In 2013, the UPSC had passed a notification saying that candidates writing Civil Service Examination can no longer write answers in regional languages unless their graduation is in that particular language. After several political parties raised an uproar in the Parliament, the "arbitrary" rule was withdrawn. CSE question papers, however, continue to be printed only in English and Hindi.
