Following Vijay's viral speech with political undertone at 'Sarkar' audio launch held on October 2nd, comedy actor Karunakaran started criticizing the mass hero and his fans on social media. Karunakaran visited the Chennai Commissioner's office to lodge a complaint claiming that he received death threats over cellphone, whatsapp messages and social media pages. Since he did not take a written complaint with him the Commissioner's office advised the actor on the rules for lodging a cyber crime complaint which should include the numbers from which calls and whatsapp messages came and also screenshots of other threats to file an FIR. Karuna requested a couple of days time which the cops obliged.
