Sakuni (Saguni in Tamil) is a Karthi-starrer. Produced by Studios Green, the film is directed by Shankar Dayal. The interestingly-titled film has been in news because of a particular rumor on Karthi's role in the movie. Since the film is a political entertainer, some sections of the grapevine in Chennai began to give a spin on the hero's role. They started saying that Karthi's character was inspired by Niira Radia, the infamous corporate lobbyist, whose name is associated with the 2G Spectrum scam.

Clarifying the baseless rumour, Karthi has said that though the film is a commentary on the state of affairs, and is a political plot, his role was not a sketch of Radia's. In fact, the actor is playing an ordinary villager in the movie. The film takes an interesting turn when Karthi comes to city on a personal task. How he comes into contact with politicians in the corridors of power is the subject of Shakuni.

The film was earlier planned to be released in Telugu by Bellamkonda Suresh. It is not known whether it will be released by him or the original makers himself. From the time it was launched, there have been huge expectations from the movie. From Karthi's get-up (in one of the posters, he was seen wearing the neta’s khaddar) to the title, the film has been arousing the audience interest. Moreover, Karthi's Naa Peru Shiva is still fresh in the minds of audience.

Coming as it does in the wake of burgeoning political corruption in India, it was anticipated by some that the hero is playing a grey role in the movie. However, as Karthi has put the record straight, there is no resemblance to any real character.
